Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the benefits of The Ishayas' Ascension?

The gentle and regular practice of The Ishayas' Ascension will improve every aspect of your life, immediately.  Cultivating a conscious relationship with the Truth, your true essence. This enables deeper and deeper levels of peace and joy to percolate into every part of your life.  As time goes on, and it need not be long, the stresses and limitations of life just fall away and are replaced by an experience of vibrant aliveness, alertness and tranquility.  Whatever you do from that experience, whether it is work, sport or play, becomes more and more fun and complete.  The practice is also very beneficial for physical health.  As the mind stills the body is able to settle into a deep state of rest.  This allows the metabolism to stabilize and the natural process of healing to occur.  For many people, learning the Ishayas' Ascension is the first time in their lives that they have truly given to themselves.  The more relaxed and centered you become, the more you are able to enjoy and support those around you.  Your relationships with family, friends and business partners naturally improve when you are more content, grounded and focused. top

How do I learn The Ishayas' Ascension?

The Ishayas' Ascension is usually taught over a weekend, at what we call the First Sphere course.  This course usually runs from 7pm to 10pm on a Friday night, where you will learn the first Ascension Attitude.  The course then continues on Saturday (10am - 5pm) and Sunday (10am - 5pm).  As we teach you the first technique on the Friday evening, you are able to immediately practice and play with it enabling you to dive into a new experience and have a lot of fun.  For more information on course availability check out the course schedule. top

How long will it take to get results from The Ishayas' Ascension?

The results of the Ishayas' Ascension are immediate, in terms of deep rest and a change in perspective.  Most people notice a significant difference on the course itself.  The rate of growth is different for everybody and dependent on a number of things.  Regularity of practice is important, and your willingness to apply what has been learned in the First Sphere course makes a big difference.  All of this is discussed in detail on the course. top

What will I learn on the Meditation Course?

During the weekend course you will receive the first four Ishayas' Ascension. These are called Ascension Attitudes and are based on the positive upward spiraling emotions of Praise, Gratitude, Love and Compassion.

The weekend consists of the opportunity to experience the Ishayas' Meditation Technique alternating with lectures to allow you to gain a full understanding of the mechanics of the technique.

You will leave the weekend course with absolutely everything you need in order to allow this simple and easy practice to be an integral part of your everyday life.

Ishayas' Ascension teachers offer you continued support if you desire it. Weekly meetings incorporating the opportunity to meditate as a group and receiving guidance in the use of these simple mechanical techniques are available and entirely optional. top

What if I don't believe in it?

Fortunately, no belief is required.  These techniques are mechanical and work whether you believe they will or not.  The Ascension Attitudes completely bypass the surface of the mind and bring your awareness to the very Source of who you are.  This is a completely simple and natural process. top

What about my other practices?

The Ishayas' Ascension is not a belief system.  It has no dogma therefore does not conflict with any other belief or practice - religious, spiritual or otherwise.  Its profound benefits are equally available to people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs. top

Why do I have to attend a course to learn?

As simple as the Ishayas' Ascension is, it is a completely experiential teaching.  It is important to learn from qualified teachers who can impart the techniques correctly and give experienced feedback.  In this way, as you learn you will know that you are practicing the meditation correctly.  For this reason, amongst others, the Ishayas' Ascension has always been shared from one enlivened heart to another, in person.  It is not possible to learn it from a book, or from any other kind of impersonal course. top

What does Ishaya mean and who are The Ishayas?

The word Ishaya is a Sanskrit word.  Sanskrit is perhaps the most ancient of all languages and stems from the region known today as India.  The word Isha means "Lord" or "Highest Consciousness"; "ya" means "for" or "of". So the word Ishaya means "for" or "of the Highest Consciousness", or "for" or "of the Lord".

The Ishayas are monks who have dedicated their lives to sharing this precious Teaching with all whom would receive it.  We have committed ourselves heart, mind, body and soul to the timeless tradition from which it springs.  This is not a new religion and we are not looking for followers or devotees.  We are simply teaching a simple and easy technique that allows anyone willing to learn it to remember the Truth of who they are.

Where does this teaching come from?

The Ishayas' Teaching has its roots in both the East and the West.  In the East it stems from the Vedic Tradition of India, the very tradition of Enlightenment itself.  In the West it has roots in the Judeo-Christian culture of the early First Century C.E. The Tradition itself is many thousands of years old.  It stretches over oceans of time in an unbroken lineage from Teacher to student, culminating most recently with Maharishi Sadasiva Isham (M.S.I.) who began teaching The Ishayas' Ascension publicly again in the early 1990's. Since that time, The Ishayas'  Ascension has spread almost exclusively by word of mouth to all corners of the globe.  M.S.I.'s direct students, as well as their students, continue to carry on his vision and Teaching. top

To qualify as a teacher it is required to attend a six-month Mastery of the Self Course.

How much time do I need to Meditate each day?

We encourage three times per day for twenty minutes each time. Initially, this may seem like a lot of time out of your day if you are a working family person. However, this time can be accommodated with no real change of routine. The Ishayas' Ascension can be practiced anywhere - sitting comfortably at home, in the office, on an airplane or on the bus on the way to work. Generally people find that the extra focus, clarity and presence actually saves them time. Typically, we become more focused in our daily activities and our productivity and effectiveness grows quickly. This benefit generates more time. Furthermore, the practice is so enjoyable that people often reduce activities such as watching television.

If your schedule is simply too busy, then you will find that one or two twenty-minute meditation periods will generate significant changes in your experience of life.

Will it be a long time before I start to benefit from the Ishayas' Ascension?

The individual experience is different. The long-term benefits of regular meditation are cumulative, but new Ascenders notice positive growth and development in their experience of life almost immediately. top

How much does the Ishayas' Ascension Course cost?

The First Sphere course is usually run over a weekend and costs $395.  Once you have attended this course you can repeat it anywhere in the world, as many times as you want, for free.  In fact, this is highly encouraged. top

Will I be required to study to learn or to develop my capability?

No to all that! The practice of the Ishayas' Ascension requires no intellectual effort. Everything you need to know will be explained in simple language during the course. After that further information can be provided by books or by any Ishaya to satisfy your intellect. But, frankly, it isn't necessary. This teaching is purely experiential. top

Can anyone learn the Ishayas' Ascension Meditation?

Anyone can learn and use the Ishayas' Ascension - any age, education, religion or culture. One of the great things about this meditation technique is that it is not religious and it doesn't interfere with any belief system.

The meditation technique allows the activity of the mind to settle down in a natural way until it is left quiet, but super alert. The Ishayas' Ascension Technique is completely natural. It doesn't force the mind nor do we need to try or strain to do it. It's so simple and easy. It works for everyone.

Will I become so relaxed that I am not motivated for success?

Not a chance. By eliminating stress and tension, and by increasing energy The Ishayas' Ascension creates a very effective platform for success in life. Typically, people who learn to Ascend notice much more focus, clarity, and access to greater creativity and intelligence. Decision-making becomes more clear and intuitive. In addition they experience a greater ability to communicate with others, and that their lower stress levels impacts positively on people they interact with. Many people experience health benefits and improvements in relations with friends and family. top

Can I learn the Ishayas' Ascension from a book or DVD?

No. It is an experiential teaching. Each person is unique and has a different nervous system and life experiences. In order to learn the technique properly requires personal instruction from a qualified Ishaya teacher.

Reading a book or viewing a DVD cannot provide the experience of pure consciousness and the corresponding state of restful alertness that Ascension brings. Ishaya teachers are resting in full consciousness when they teach and they transfer the magic of this teaching to you from that Still place. A book can't answer all of the questions, at the right time, that people might have while learning the practice.

I have a history of poor health. Can I use the Ishayas' Ascension safely?

Absolutely. It is completely safe. If you are taking medical treatment we recommend that you continue to take your doctor's advice. top

Will I be required to adopt unusual postures when I meditate?

No. When you meditate you sit comfortably with your eyes closed, in silence. To an onlooker it may appear as though you are resting your eyes. It is perfectly possible to meditate in a public place. top

How does it differ from other systems of meditation?

Other systems generally involve either concentration (which means effort) or contemplation (thinking about something), both of which tend to keep the mind lively and active. The Ishayas' Ascension is a completely natural, effortless practice that allows your mind to ride into the Stillest part of our existence. A unique aspect of this technique is that it can be used with the eyes open as you experience your daily activities.  top

Is The Ishayas' Ascension really compatible with a modern lifestyle?

Definitely. One of our teaching's objectives is to live life 100% on the inside (focusing on The Stillness within) as well as 100% on the outside (our daily life). top
